Analysts for SafeWise.com recently released a list of the safest cities in the Sooner state. The analysts looked at crime statistics from the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) in 2012, taking note of crime rates in cities with populations surpassing 2,500.
On top of crime rates, the analysts looked at the number of violent crimes in each city and used that information to calculate the likelihood of those crimes happening per 1,000 people. This was in an effort to keep cities on a level playing field, regardless of population.
Oklahoma City did not make the top 50 list. However, Nichols Hills is number 22 on the list. Edmond took the 29th spot and Yukon took 49th.
The number one city on the list is Wilburton. The safest city in Oklahoma has .70 violent crimes per 1,000 and .35 property crimes per 1,000.
Mustang barely made the cut at number 50 on the list.
