CBS News says Adrian Peterson has been banned, for now, from all team activities by the Minnesota Vikings.
Less than 48 hours after announcing that Peterson would play this coming Sunday, in the third week of the National Football League season, the Vikings had a change of heart, announcing early Wednesday that the star running back has been placed on the league's Exempt/Commissioner's Permission list.
The means Peterson won't be allowed to participate in any team activities, including games, until his legal issues are resolved.
Peterson has been indicted on charges of "reckless or negligent injury to a child" -- a four-year-old son -- in Texas. He is scheduled to make his first court appearance Oct. 8.
Vikings owners Zygi and Mark Wilf released a statement announcing the move just after 2 a.m. ET on Wednesday.
