Right now all the rage is pumpkin-flavored everything. But it turns out there are other items you should buy this month. If you're going to spend some cash, don't pay full price, right? Here are the items you can snag a deal on in September.

First up is holiday travel. The best time to buy plane tickets for Thanksgiving and December is six to eight weeks in advance.

You can sign up for price alerts and emails from airlines for deals. And it might not be a bad idea to book a rental car now.

Another hot item for September -- cars! Consumer Reports says next year's models are showing up on dealer's lot marking down 2014 models.

And right along with cars, bikes are priced at a steal this month. Summer is winding down which has price-tags on bikes pretty much slashed in half. We're talking about bikes from all ages both online and at local stores.

You can prepare for next spring and summer now with a new bike.

Plus, you might be surprised about this. School supplies are on sale right now. Many stores simply overstock on pens, erasers, folders and pencils. So to ease their stock, they have sales.

Most products will be discounted from anywhere to 25 percent to 75 percent.

Other items on sale right now include patio furniture and grills. Most of us have bought new furniture, decor and grills this year. But, most are already thinking about putting them into storage.

Now is the time to think about getting a new set for next year since some sets are marked down in the 60-percent to 75-percent range.

If you need to grab a pair of jeans or a jacket, denim is marked down. It's the one item you can buy now that probably won't ever go out of style. Just be aware, most denim deals are just a way to get you in the door to buy other clothes likely not on sale.

Next up is older iPhone models. The new iPhone six will be released on Friday. So older models will instantly lose their value. That means you can grab an iPhone 5 for way less than you ever thought.

It could be the time for you to try and trade in your old phone for a new one as well.

And last, flowers and garden goods. Summer isn't over until September 23, most people tend to stop gardening in August. That puts summer gardening tools, seeds and flowers on sale. Markdowns can range from 25 percent to 75 percent.

One thing to keep in mind -- you might want to stock up coffee. September 29 is National Coffee Day and some chains will offer deals on bagged coffee and K-cups.
