OHP Trooper Charged With Domestic Abuse For Choking Daughter

An Oklahoma Highway Patrol trooper has been charged with domestic abuse after authorities said he choked his 19-year-old daughter.

According Harrah police, at about 2:30 a.m. on May 26, officers responded to the report of a disturbance at a home in the 19000 block of Redbud Creek Circle.

The victim told police that she was talking to her father, OHP trooper Derrick Lynn Ware, and Ware became really aggravated and angry. She said Ware then choked her and pushed her down.

Ware, 47, admitted to choking his daughter, but said he could do that because she is his daughter and he's "old school," according to police. He said he did it because his daughter “mouthed off” to him and this is his house.

The victim refused medical treatment at the scene. Ware was then taken into custody and has been charged with one count of domestic abuse by strangulation.
