The Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma and the Community Food Bank of Eastern Oklahoma will each receive $60,000 from Wal-Mart, thanks to the help from the community.
According to officials, the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma received 7,434 votes online through Wal-Mart's “Fight Hunger, Spark Change” campaign.
The top 50 food banks with the most votes will each be awarded $60,000. The Regional Food Bank came in third in the nation, and the Community Food Bank of Eastern Oklahoma in Tulsa landed in the 14th slot.
Together, the Oklahoma Food Banks will receive $120,000 to help fight hunger this winter, according to officials.
“No child should go to bed with hunger pangs in their stomach,” said Rodney Bivens, executive director of the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma. “Thank you for voting for the Regional Food Bank and for making sure Oklahoma children will have food on the table.”
Oklahomans voted for the nonprofit from September 15 though October 5 through Facebook.
