An Oklahoma teen was arrested by Duncan Police late Wednesday for alleged threats he made on a social media app.
According to KSWO-TV in Lawton, the 15-year-old Duncan High School student was taken into custody just before midnight by police with the help of the FBI.
According to KSWO, the teen posted several threatening messages on the cell phone app "Yik Yak."
The messages said:
Duncan Police said they will have an increased at the high school on Thursday.
The threats were anonymously posted to the cell phone application called Yik-Yak, and we've seen this same problem in public schools and universities across the state and country. Many students use it as another avenue to stir up school drama, but police said they take all threats seriously.
"There have been assaults and things like that escalated because of someone saying something on Twitter, or Facebook. Something they possibly wouldn't have even stated in person," said Cpl. Leon Calhoun with Broken Arrow police.
The biggest problem police have with this app is that it's all anonymous. It's caused so much trouble at high schools across the country, that app developers are now using special GPS technology to try and block the app from being used on school campuses.
