Election day is this Tuesday, and the race for Oklahoma's next superintendent has drawn significant attention over the past months.

The race is heated due to controversy over how the public school system has been run here the past few years - even the past few decades.

When it comes to national educational rankings, Oklahoma has a spotty record. According to Education Week's "quality counts" report, while Oklahoma received an "A" in standards, assessments, and accountability, it still received a "D" in student achievement.

Other rankings like the Commonwealth Fund report show Oklahoma ranks 49th overall among all states and the District of Columbia.

Despite the bad news, there is a lot of good going on in Oklahoma education, and there is a new TV show being created to prove it.

"Oklahoma Versus the World" is a teen academic game show where Oklahoma students go up against outstanding students from around the world via Skype.

It's hosted by international educator and Oklahoma native Allan Johnson.
