The No. 24 University of Oklahoma volleyball team was defeated by TCU, 3-2, on the road Wednesday night. The Sooners dropped to 16-7 overall and 7-3 in the Big 12. The Horned Frogs (15-10, 5-6) earned their third straight win by scores of 13-25, 25-18, 25-27, 25-19 and 15-11.
Junior outside hitter Kierra Holst posted her second highest kill total of the season at 22 and was one of three OU attackers in double figures. TCU countered with four players in double digits, including Ashley Smith, who led the Horned Frogs with 20 kills and a .413 attack rate. She added 10 digs in a double-double effort.
For the match, TCU outhit Oklahoma, .312-.259. Redshirt-sophomore outside hitter Madison Ward was second for the Sooners with 18 kills. She posted her seventh double-double of the season by adding 13 digs. Sophomore middle blocker Micaela Spann added 13 kills, a team-high five blocks and hit .579.
Smith was aided by Blaire Pickens with 13 kills, six blocks and a .321 attack rate. Mattie Burleson added 12 kills and hit .333, while Sarita Mikals notched a double-double with an 11-kill, 12-dig effort.
Redshirt-sophomore middle blocker Summer Cole made her first start of the season in place of freshman Marion Hazelwood. She totaled seven kills and no errors to hit .500 with four blocks.
Junior setter Julia Doyle recorded 54 assists and 13 digs for her team-leading eighth double-double of the season. It was also the third time she reached the 50-assist mark this season. On the back line, junior libero Taylor Migliazzo chipped in with 11 digs and sophomore defensive specialist Lauren English added a career-high 10.
Alexia Heist matched Doyle's effort with 54 assists to go with seven digs. Sutton Sunstrum led TCU with 19 digs.
The Sooners return to action Saturday night at Baylor at 7 p.m.
