A police standoff at a Choctaw home ended in the arrest of the suspect Wednesday night.
According to Choctaw police, the suspect, 35-year-old Terry Barthel, tried to barricade himself, his ex-wife and his children inside his ex-wife's home, located near N.E. 36th and Choctaw Road, when he was intoxicated. When officers arrived, Barthel reportedly refused to come outside. That's when the police standoff began.
During the standoff, police said Barthel left the house several times, but he ran back inside. The standoff ended when the tactical team shot Barthel in the hand with a bean bag. He was taken to the hospital to have his hand examined.
According to police, Barthel's ex-wife currently has a Victim Protective Order against Barthel. And unrelated to Wednesday night's incident, Barthel already had an active warrant out of Oklahoma County for violating the protective order.
Barthel was arrested on that warrant, and on charges of domestic abuse in front of a minor. obstructing a police officer and violation of VPO.
