Folks traveling through Norman should brace for another round of I-35 highway construction. In January, crews will begin a $71 million project ODOT called the state's biggest transportation project in history.

ODOT will widen I-35 lanes from four to eight lanes. The State Highway 9 East Interchange and the Lindsey Street Bridge will also be widened.

ODOT said the project will also open up traffic along Ed Noble Parkway to dozens of restaurant and retail spaces.

Sooner Legends Hotel and Restaurant Owner Doug Kennon said the construction is a necessary evil. “It's always scary. And it's hard when businesses and hotels and restaurants sometimes struggle,” he said.

ODOT said the project should take around two years to complete.
