The deadly shooting happened near the very busy intersection of NE 23rd and Hughson Ave. Monday night, around 8 p.m., and police really want to get in touch with one of those witnesses who called 911 for help.
“There was just a shooting at 23 and Sarah Road,” said the caller to the 911 operator. She said she was right behind the victim's car when the shooting happened. “There was a car in front of me, and then there was a car who was putting on his breaks besides that car and next thing you know they started shooting!”
There is surveillance video from that night from a nearby store, minutes before the drive-by shooting happened.
You can see as both the suspect and victim and witness drive by.
Police say the victim was in the Gray 1980 Chevy Monte Carlo, the suspect was in a newer model dark gray Chevy Impala, and the witness they want to talk to was in the red car behind both.
She called 911, but did not leave behind a name or number.
“We believe this witness may have some important information and we'd like to speak with her,” said Detective Kyle Crusoe with the Midwest City Police Department. “She may have additional things we may need to look into.”
Police say 24-year-old Robert Jamel Pennington died in that shooting.
And Detective Crusoe says they have developed some leads in his case. They have even talked to a witness who was inside the car with Pennington when the shooting happened.
But the witness in the red car could be their missing link to finding the clues they need to positively identify the shooter.
“Certainly we understand it's a shooting, and people could be scared about coming forward,” said Crusoe. “But we would certainly like to talk to her.”
