Let's face it, when it comes to natural beauty, Oklahoma City kind of got hit with the ugly stick. The landscape is flat and brown. But in typical Oklahoma City style the people who settled here and live here now weren't happy with that and through the decades, and especially in the last 20 years we've give mother nature an assist with the landscaping here.

That's one of the reasons my radar went off when I heard the city is considering allowing an energy exploration company drill and frack in what are the only few pretty acres along Lake Hefner.

Talking about the south shore, just west of Stars and Stripes park.

Like thousands of people who walk and jog and cycle around Hefner, the tree-lined south shore is my favorite stretch away from the freeway and busyness of the rest of the trail.

I can't imagine the area with a drilling rig or rigs being serviced by heavy duty trucks and equipment crossing the jogging and bike path.

And while a spill is not likely to occur, it's not impossible. And Hefner is one of our main water supplies.

I understand that it could we a windfall for the city, and leaders have indicated some of that money could be used to enhance the lake even more which would be nice, but I'm far from convinced at this point.

We'll see what they have to say at the public hearing Thursday night.

I'm Kelly Ogle and that's My 2 Cents.
