The sounds of the season echo through Chandler, Okla. A while back, Christmas bells were played at a Chandler bank, but the tradition ended years ago.
The First United Methodist Church of Chandler wanted to bring the tradition back this year. For two years they raised the $5,000 needed for “digital bells” to sound out four speakers every hour.
“Had them installed before the Christmas Season,” said Pastor Allen Carson.
For the past two weeks, the bells have been playing a Christmas song on the hour from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
“I love it,” said Chandler resident, Cindy Veeley.
But the music isn't bringing joy to the world for everyone. One neighbor close to the church has created a Facebook page called 'Turn Down the Bells of First United Methodist Church of Chandler, OK.'
“If I wanted a grandfather clock in my house, I would have bought one,” said Lindsay Vance, who created the page on Facebook.
Vance said the bells wake her infant from napping.
“It's annoying,” said Vance.
Carson said his church has lowered the volume of the bells and police have said the church is not breaking any laws.
The church said it won't play a Christmas song each hour after this week. However, the bells will still chime on the hour and a song may play once a day at noon.
