Norman police arrested a suspect who led officers on a chase in a stolen vehicle Thursday morning.

According to police, at about 11:18 a.m., officers responded to the report of a stolen vehicle at a business at 1230 E. Lindsey Street. The victim reported that he stopped at the business, left his vehicle running and went inside.

The vehicle was a white, 2005 GMC Canyon pick-up truck. Police said they located the truck on Classen Blvd., traveling southbound near State Highway 9. The vehicle then went west on State Highway 9.

According to police, officers attempted to stop the vehicle on State Highway 9 at 12th Avenue Southeast. Instead of stopping, the suspect drove north on 12th Avenue SE and then west on Oak Tree.

Police said the suspect abandoned the truck where Oak Tree dead-ends into a gated apartment complex. He then ran into the complex where officers lost sight of him.

Officers established a perimeter and began searching for the suspect. The suspect was eventually found in the complex and taken into custody without incident.

Police identified the suspect as 41-year-old Howard Glenn Barrett Jr. of Norman. He is now facing charges of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, eluding a police officer, possession of CDS, possession of paraphernalia and a municipal warrant.
