The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for central Oklahoma, where forecasters say very light freezing rain is likely.

Forecasters say the advisory will remain in effect through 6 a.m. Saturday and that an ice storm warning that was previously issued for the area has been canceled.

Rain and freezing rain is forecast through sunrise Saturday. Freezing rain may change over to rain Friday afternoon and persist through the overnight hours.

Freezing rain will result in a light glazing of ice on elevated surfaces such as trees, power lines, bridges and overpasses.

Light icing may make driving hazardous where ice accumulates on bridges and overpasses. Forecasters say damage to trees and power lines is not expected because ice accumulations are expected to be minor.

Several counties are still under the warning. See a complete list here.

Oklahoma Department of Transportation released a road condition update at 11 a.m. Conditions on highways in southwestern and southern parts of the state are wet with a few slick spots as temperatures hover around freezing. Crews are treating roads and bridges as needed.

In other areas, including the Oklahoma City and Tulsa metros, as precipitation moves in and with temperatures above freezing, crews are continuing to monitor conditions and are prepared to respond.

Drivers should continue to check local weather and road reports ahead of getting out, and allow extra travel time if needed. If drivers must travel out of state they are urged to check area road conditions before heading out.
