Oklahoma City police are investigating the new year's first homicide after a woman died from her injuries suffered in a shooting.

According to police, at about 2:15 p.m. on Thursday, January 1, officers responded to the report of shots fired in the area of S.E. 80th and Sooner Road.

Officers said they found the victim, 19-year-old Valanesha Washington, inside a home located at 8005 John Roberts Drive. She was in the bedroom area when a male suspect driving a white vehicle (with front end damage) fired at the house, ultimately striking and killing her, according to police.

Washington was transported to an area hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

There were several people inside at the time and witnesses said they saw two teenage boys, or possibly men in their early 20's, run out of the home, shirtless, with machetes in hand apparently chasing after the shooter.

Investigators said they are working to develop suspect information. Anyone with information is asked to call the Homicide Tip Line at (405)-297-1200.

According to police, on December 27, 2014, someone driving a gray 4-door car fired shots at the same house. No one was injured. However, police said when they were investigating that shooting, no one inside the house would cooperate with them. Police said the residents told them that they had no idea why the house would get shot at.
