OHP: Trooper And Suspect Fought After Weapon Discovery In Guthrie

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol (OHP) released new information regarding Sunday's officer-involved shooting in Guthrie.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol (OHP) released new information regarding Sunday's officer-involved shooting in Guthrie.

According to the OHP, Trooper Caleb Swickey stopped 18-year-old Kenneth Brown for a traffic violation in downtown Guthrie Sunday evening.

During a pat down, OHP said Trooper Swickey discovered a 9mm handgun on Brown. OHP said an altercation ensued upon discovering that weapon and Trooper Swickey then shot Brown in self-defense.

The gun was turned over to the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation for identification.

At last check, Brown was listed in critical condition at a local hospital. Trooper Swickey was placed on routine paid administrative leave pending the completion of the investigation.
