Oklahoma City emergency responders said frigid temperatures recently do not make it okay for folks to venture out onto area ponds and lakes.

Monday night, firefighters had to rescue 38-year-old William Patrick, after police said he drove his car 200 yards onto Lake Overholser.

Police arrested Patrick for DUI.

“By the grace of God that they didn't have to go down to the bottom, and we weren't diving on them,” Fire Captain Dane Yaw said. “So it was pure luck they went into an area where the ice shelving was thick enough to sustain the weight.”
