The Oklahoma Highway Patrol has identified a man who was killed after crashing his vehicle into the back of a semi-truck on Interstate 40 in southeast Oklahoma City, Tuesday night.
It happened at about 6:20 p.m. in the eastbound lanes of I-40 at mile marker 162.8, which is near Anderson Road. According to the OHP, a semi-truck driven by 54-year-old Retha Schubert of McAlester, Oklahoma, slowed and came to a stop due to congested traffic on the inside lane.
However, a 2007 GMC Yukon driven by 34-year-old Lucas Gene Templeton of Asher, Oklahoma, approached from behind, failed to properly reduce speed and rear-ended the semi.
Templeton was pinned inside his vehicle for a short time before being freed by Oklahoma City firefighters. He was pronounced dead at the scene due to massive internal and external injuries.
Schubert refused treatment.
Troopers shut down the eastbound lanes of I-40 in the area for about two and half hours as they investigated the scene. The cause of the collision remains under investigation.
