The Oklahoma Department of Transportation (ODOT) released an update on metro road conditions Saturday afternoon.

ODOT said crews continue to make progress in clearing highways and interstates statewide. But while some areas are improving, overall travel conditions will worsen into the evening hours. Many areas remain slick and hazardous, and black ice conditions will quickly develop overnight, transportation officials said.

In central, western and eastern Oklahoma roads are snow-packed and slushy. ODOT urged extreme caution on bridges, overpasses and ramps. Refreezing is expected Saturday night, which will cause many areas to become slick due to black ice, ODOT said.

If travel is necessary in the overnight hours, drivers were urged by ODOT to stay at least 200 feet behind road clearing equipment and allow extra room for braking.
