Body cameras are becoming the norm for law enforcement agencies across the country.

Oklahoma City Police have joined the ranks of those using body cameras. The department is testing out cameras for the next 30 days.

Twenty officers have started testing cameras from three vendors.

In 30 days, a vendor will be selected and 100 officers will be equipped with body cameras for a one-year pilot program.

In about a year, 700 officers will be equipped with cameras.

“I suspect that there are going to be a lot of changes in the first,” said OCPD Capt. Paco Balderrama about the body camera pilot program.

The start-up cost for all the cameras is about four million dollars.

Part of that cost covers four new civilian hires who will store and catalog the video.
