Crews Respond To Hay Bale Fire On I-40

Fire crews responded to a hay bale fire on I-40 Friday afternoon.

Firefighters responded to a call of hay bales on fire along I-40 near the Ft. Smith Junction around 3:00 p.m.  

According the Oklahoma Highway Patrol a truck was hauling 30-40 bales when they became fully engulfed in flames, spreading quickly to the grass.

At this time, it is unclear how the fire started.

 I-40 westbound was closed for over a hour as crews worked to clear the area. All lanes of westbound I-40 are open at Sunnylane Rd. but the westbound I-40 off ramp to Scott St. remains closed for ongoing clean up.
