Norman Man Busted In Undercover Child Predator Sting

Canadian County Sheriff’s Deputies say they arrested a Norman man after he was caught in a child predator sting.

According to the sheriff’s office, 29-year-old James Lee Dawkins was arrested Wednesday, Sept. 23, on charges relating to violations of the Internet Crimes Against Children Act.

An investigation was launched a few weeks ago, after Dawkins initiated contact with a deputy’s under cover social media profile. The deputy was posing as a 14-year-old girl living in the Yukon area.

Deputies said at first it seemed the conversation between Dawkins and the “girl” was general and non-threatening but things changed after a couple of weeks.  Dawkins’ dialogue became sexual in nature, including asking about sexual history and experience level. Then, Dawkins began texting photos of his genitals and asking the girl to meet up for sex.

“Once Dawkins started sending pictures of his male anatomy to the girl, and trying to coordinate for sex, my investigators knew it was time to locate him and take him off the streets,” said Randall Edwards, Canadian County Sheriff’s Office.

Dawkins was arrested at his place of employment in Norman. While in custody, Dawkins made a full confession. Investigators also found the pornographic photos on his cell phone that he sent to the undercover deputy.

Dawkins was transported to the Canadian County Jail and booked on two counts of Committing Lewd Acts With a Child.  He remains in custody with bond established at one hundred thousand dollars.
