A rendezvous set in motion by the dating app “Tinder” ended with an alleged rape at an apartment complex on the southwest side of the metro over the weekend.
The alleged crime happened in the early-morning hours on Sunday. Police met with the victim at a gas station near I-240 and S. Walker Ave. in southeast OKC just after 2 a.m.
The victim told police she and the suspect, 28-year-old Ivan Kindlan, first got in contact on Tinder five days ago and agreed to meet for the first time on Saturday. The woman told police she met Kindlan at his apartment in the 3100 block of SW 89th St. and she rode with him to Hawaiian Don’s bar. She told police they were at the bar for about an hour and half, that Kindlan had two drinks and got “very intoxicated”.
After leaving the bar the two drove back to Kindlan’s apartment. The victim said that Kindlan persuaded her to come inside because he just moved in and wanted her to show her his place. She said she only intended to stay for a few moments, but once inside she said Kindlan became physically aggressive.
The victim said she told Kindlan “no” several times, but he got angry and started choking her. She said, with his hand still on her throat, he forced her onto his bed and sexually assaulted her without a condom. When it was over she was able to get dressed and leave.
After leaving the apartment, the victim first got in contact with some of her friends, who eventually advised her to call the police. After meeting with police, the victim led officers to Kindlan’s apartment, where he was eventually placed under arrest.
Kindlan was booked into the Oklahoma County Jail on one count of First-Degree Rape. Details on a possible bond were not available.
