Paying More For Less: Companies Shrink Products

Some shoppers are leaving the grocery store with an empty feeling. A few products are shrinking but the prices aren't.

We're not just talking snack-sized items either. And few of these products can really add up. On this list of items shrinking, soap, laundry detergent and one popular drink.

Shoppers are now finding smaller juice containers. When customers expect to find a half-gallon container, some store brands still contain the traditional 64 ounces, but many of the big brands have five fewer ounces. Both the same price.

Even laundry detergents have shrunk. "Liquid All" is 50 ounces, while a look-alike bottle of "All Free Clear" is only 46 and a half ounces. Same price, but one takes away two loads of laundry.

Next, Ivory soap. In a 10-pack, you get 4-ounce bars. Pick up a 3-pack and the bars weigh less.

The reason for the downsize, companies blame the rising cost of labor and ingredients. But Consumer Reports says it's a just a way for companies to raise prices without being noticed
