At 7-0, Noble’s 4th grade Deep Fork Valley League Football team is undefeated so far this season. The team’s coach Tommy Hand says some of their success could be the addition of 10-year-old Christian Phelan.
Christian was born with spina bifida, which means he was born with a hole in his spinal cord. He will never walk. But Coach Hand says Christian has been a big help running drills, and carrying out other duties at practice.
Christian’s mother Danica says she’s thankful Noble’s 4th grade team took her in. She says her son is a huge OU Football fan, and his idol is Head Coach Bob Stoops.
“He’s a lot more excited about life than he was a year ago. He sees now he can do what all other kids his age can do, and it makes him feel better,” said Danica.
“Maybe a football Coach?” asked News 9’s Steve Shaw.
“Yeah, he wants to be a football coach,” said Danica. “Maybe somebody kind of like Bob Stoops.”
