A robbery suspect was shot by a Lighthorse police officer after he reportedly assaulted the officer Sunday night in Marietta, Oklahoma.
According to the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation, two robbery suspects led a Lighthorse police officer on a chase before crashing their vehicle at mile marker 5 on Interstate 35.
The driver, later identified as 20-year-old Anthony Walker, reportedly ran from the area and the officer began chasing him on foot. When the officer caught Walker, authorities said Walker began assaulting the officer. That’s when the officer shot Walker twice.
Other officers arrived and it took four of them to take Walker into custody, according to the OSBI.
Walker, of McKinney, Texas, was transported to a Plano hospital. The officer was treated at a local hospital for injuries to his face and released.
OSBI agents said they will put together a comprehensive report of the facts in the case and present it to the district attorney. The district attorney will then determine whether the shooting was justified.
The Marietta Police Department is handling the robbery investigation. The Oklahoma Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
