Next month, Science Museum Oklahoma is giving kids the chance to live out the science of survival inspired by the Hunger Games movies.  All guests guaranteed to leave alive and enlightened after the event.

The Science Overnight runs from 7 p.m. Nov. 13 until 7 a.m. Nov. 14. Check-in begins at 6 p.m. and all guests must leave by 7:30 a.m.

It was developed by trained science educators, and the program will offer guests a chance to match wits with others by learning the tips, tricks and techniques of the science of survival.

"There is much more to survival than being strongest, fastest, or biggest," said Sherry Marshall, Vice President of Programs and Outreach at Science Museum Oklahoma. "The human brain and our ability to experiment and reason have enabled us to do more than just survive. We have thrived and built an incredible civilization. This Science Overnight will demonstrate the importance of logic and scientific processes, and how understanding the world around you is sometimes a matter of survival."

Overnight, guests will learn to use natural and synthetic materials to create water filters, and they'll peer through a microscope to learn the difference between "filtered" water and "purified" water. Campers will use a compass to navigate a challenge course and discover how animals use camouflage as a means of survival.

Of course, campers will also learn about the physics of the bow and arrow. They will also have the chance to build their own bow and test it out on a target range. Campers will have the chance to get familiar with an assortment of snakes, spiders, scorpions and cockroaches.

The night will include access to all of Science Museum Oklahoma's regular exhibits and planetarium and Science Live shows.

The cost is $35 per child for members of Science Museum Oklahoma, $45 per child for nonmembers and $25 for each adult non-participant. One adult is required to attend for every six children in attendance. Breakfast will be provided. Each guest should bring his or her own sleeping bag or air mattress, as well as a change of clothes and a towel.

Space is limited. Call 405-602-3760 to register or for more information. Registration closes at 3 p.m. Nov. 13.
