Do you want to stand out?
Want to differentiate yourself from the crowd?
How about at work? Want to catch the boss's eye?
It's not that hard these days. Just be on time, or even better, five minutes early.
Early to work, early to meetings. Early.
You're boss is sure to notice, and so will your co-workers.
And whether you are or not, you will give the impression that you're more on top of your job.
I say all of this, because I'm noticing fewer and fewer people arrive on time, and very few seem to feel at all bad about being late.
Shocking I know, but we should apologize when we're late.
Call me crazy, but I'll be there in 20 minutes means 20 minutes, not roughly 20 minutes, and no, it's not enough to call after 20 minutes and say I'm running a bit late and then show up in another 15 minutes.
An old proverb says never leave to be on time, because you never will be.
That's truer now than ever.
I know I'm setting myself up for a tongue lashing the next time I'm late somewhere, but it's worth it.
If you want to give your kids a leg up, teach them to be a few minutes early, they'll stand out from their peers.
