It seems Oklahoma just can’t catch a “brake”. According to a new study, Oklahoma is the fifth most dangerous state in which to drive.

Using data from the Insurance Institute of Highway Safety (IIHS), the website 24/7 Wall St. compiled the list based on total roadway fatalities, percentage of alcohol involved, seatbelt use and the average of deaths per 100,000 residents.

Using complete data from 2013, Oklahoma averaged 17.6 deaths per 100,000 residents in 2013. A total of 678 people died in traffic accidents. Only 84-percent of passengers and drivers said they always used seatbelts.

Correction: The article from 24/7 Wall St. misrepresented the number of drivers killed who were tested for Blood Aclohol Contonet (BAC) as the proportion of drivers killed in car crashes. The number of drivers who actually tested at .08 BAC and higher was actually closer to 25 percent

The 10 “Most Dangerous States To Drive In” are as follows:

  1. Montana
  2. North Dakota
  3. Mississippi
  4. West Virginia
  5. Oklahoma
  6. Alabama
  7. Arkansas
  8. South Carolina
  9. South Dakota
  10. Tennessee

According to the same study, the following are the 10 “Safest States to Drive In”:
