Authorities Beef Up Security At OK State Capitol Following Threat

In the wake of the attacks in Paris and San Bernardino, worries about security are nationwide, including the Oklahoma State Capitol.

If you'll be out at the capitol, you may see some more security after a recent threat. Despite the threat being deemed not-credible, officials said they aren't taking any chances.

In an email sent to capitol staff members on Monday was an alarming warning during a season that should be filled with glad tidings and good cheer. The message was brief but to the point, saying there was a threat and that staff members would be seeing increased security.

Oklahoma Highway Patrol and capitol security officials said the threat was made by a man claiming he could shoot into the capitol from a building across the street.

Even though the threat was later found to be not-credible, security was stepped up for several hours, and an increased showing is expected to last all week.

OHP already screens for weapons at all entrances. Some state agencies ask visitors to show their IDs and sign logbooks to keep track of who's coming in and out.  But in the wake of events like the attack in San Bernardino and fears over copycat attacks mounting, threats are being taken more seriously.
