Just days before Christmas, police officers arrested a group who police said are known gang members in Spencer.
They are set to spend the holidays in the slammer after police found stolen handguns and drugs inside a home at 3420 N Douglas Boulevard.
Police were called to the address after neighbors heard gunshots around 10 a.m. Sunday.
“Upon arrival, my officer found shell casings outside the back door of the residence, immediately began checking to see if anyone was injured, found multiple subjects, called for backup and officers from other agencies arrived to assist us,” Spencer police Chief Allen Lane said.
No one was injured, but police said marijuana was in plain sight, enough to arrest the eight males in the residence.
Jonathan Wayne Mendoza, 19; Troyveon Dimitre Boykins, 20; Marcus Jermale Crooks, 18; Darvion Laray Easley, 19; Antwan E. Menifee, 18; Otto Danyell Reed, 19; and Davionce Holman, 18, were arrested. A juvenile was eventually released to his guardian.
Police think Holman was renting the home.
After getting a search warrant, investigators spent much of the afternoon filing in and out of the home.
Almost immediately, police said they found five firearms. At least two of them came back stolen, Lane said. Authorities also found about a half pound of marijuana, plus other drug paraphernalia indicating they’d planned to sell it.
“We found that here in about the first ten minutes of the search,” Lane told News 9.
For some, this wasn't their first time in trouble; four of the men have previous mugshots. But all seven will get new ones this weekend as they're booked into Oklahoma County jail on multiple complaints.
Investigators plan to pass the firearms over to the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation for ballistics comparisons, to see if any matches come up on other crimes in that area.
