Oklahoma State is on the road for the first time in 2016 as the Cowboys take on Baylor in Waco tonight.
OSU (9-4, 1-0) swept the Bears in the regular season last year winning 64-53 at home and 74-65 on the road. Baylor (10-3, 0-1) is a perfect 9-0 at home this season behind forwards Taurean Prince, Rico Gathers and point guard Lester Medford.
Prince is fourth in the Big 12 in scoring at 15.6 points per game while the bruising Gathers averages 13.9 points and leads the conference in rebounding at 10.2 caroms per contest. Medford is 14th nationally at 6.5 assists per game.
Baylor typically employs a zone defense so the Cowboys will need Leyton Hammonds, Joe Burton and Jeffrey Carroll to be “zone busters” inside and out if they’re to steal a road win tonight.
Jeff Newberry erupted for 23 points on 8 of 13 shooting in OSU’s conference-opening win against TCU. The Cowboys need more of that from the team’s de facto leader now that it appears Phil Forte won’t return this season.
Defensively, Oklahoma State allows 62.3 points per game; that's second best in the Big 12 and 22nd nationally. Baylor averages 81.2 per game.
The game will be televised on ESPN2 at 7:00 p.m. CT.
