For the second straight week and for the third time in the last six weeks Oklahoma State freshman Jawun Evans was named the Big 12 Conference Newcomer of the Week.

Evans became the first three-time winner of the league’s Newcomer of the Week award this season, and is the first OSU player to earn the honor at least three times since Marcus Smart in 2012-13. Should Evans win one more time this season he would join a list of 14 players to bring home the four times or more since the league’s inception.

Evans led the Cowboys to one of the biggest upsets in school history with a 22-point, eight-assist, six-rebound performance in a victory over No. 3 Kansas - the third straight season OSU has defeated the Jayhawks at Gallagher-Iba Arena.

For the week, the freshman averaged 16.5 points, 5.0 assists, 5.0 rebounds and 1.5 steals – all team highs. He shot 64.7 percent (11-of-17) from the floor, converting both 3-point attempts. Evans was also 9-of-10 (.900) from the line.

He leads all Big 12 freshman in scoring (12.8 ppg) and has 93 assists, a total which ranks fifth among all freshmen in Oklahoma State history.

Evans and the Cowboys will host Baylor on Wednesday at 8 p.m. CT.
