It looks like the rumor mill is continuing as the Kevin Durant free agency frenzy approaches this summer. After ESPN's Stephen A. Smith reported earlier this season that Durant would be interested in joining the Los Angeles Lakers when his contract expires, it looks like Stephen A. has some more information to share that won't thrill many fans in Oklahoma.
While being interviewed on ESPN Radio 710's Mason and Ireland, Smith reported that Westbrook may also be interested in making the move to LA.
Here's what Smith had to say: "Keep in mind this, one of the biggest reasons, I'm told, that Kevin Durant may have the Lakers at the top of his list, is because the Lakers have been led to believe, by whom specifically I do not know, but the Lakers have been led to believe that it is a very good chance that the following year Russell Westbrook is coming."
All of this is pure speculation, but it is worth noting that Smith is one of the more respected reporters connected to the league, so therefore the basketball world takes notice when things like this are said.
Durant has adamantly denied Smith's earlier report linking him to Los Angeles, and has recently told reporters that he doesn't think too much about his free agency and that he's completely focused on this season. As for Westbrook, he's also said he's not focused on his free agency, which doesn't arrive until the summer of 2017.
Thunder fans shouldn't look too much into this report, seeing that every big named free agent is leaked to both the Lakers and the New York Knicks every summer. It's also worth nothing that neither NY or LA has been able to sign any of those headline players in either of the last two summers, therefore proving that most of the chatter was nothing but rumors.
