After holding the top spot in the polls for all of two weeks, OU men's basketball has fallen to No. 3 in both the AP and Coaches polls that were released on Monday afternoon. Villanova moved up to No.1 and are followed by Maryland while Iowa and Xavier round out the rest of the top five.
Some believed the Sooners could remain at the top despite the road loss to Kansas State on Saturday, mostly due to the fact OU stayed No. 1 after losing at Iowa State, which came just hours after being announced as the nation's top dog. An argument can also be made that OU and Villanova have the same amount of losses, while the Sooners were the ones who walked away with a 23-point victory when the two teams squared off in Hawaii in December.
Dropping two spots is no big deal for a team like the Sooners, who will have a chance to pick up big wins over No. 24 Texas and No. 6 Kansas this week. Both contests will come inside the confines of Lloyd Noble Center, therefore OU will need to protect their home court if they want to prove they deserve to be back on top.
