For those looking forward to Oklahoma City’s new streetcar system, the City Council added a small twist Tuesday.
City Council approved the streetcar system, slightly altering the route through and around Bricktown.
The new route will travel by Chesapeake Arena, and the city’s new convention center just to the south of the arena.
Jeff Bezdek is one of the members of the MAPS 3 Transit Committee.
He said the adjustment that was made will add about a mile to the streetcar track, and will add $3 million to the overall cost.
He said the city deemed an earlier site just west of Chesapeake Arena was too costly.
“Just imagine nearly 500 million dollars is about to invested down here in what was virtually a wasteland,” he said.
The city’s five car streetcar system should be operational by mid 2018. It will connect midtown to downtown to Bricktown.
