Isn't it amazing how every time you go to the grocery store you always end up paying more than you expected? A family needs to eat, but there are ways to do it without depleting your pocketbook.
On average, a family of four spends nearly $8,500 a year on groceries, that's over $700 a month. So it can be hard to save up.
First step, buy more each trip to the grocery store. Experts say almost half of all shoppers go to the store three or four times per week. So aim for one big trip instead of several small trips. That could help cut down on impulse buys.
Also, shop with focus, meaning have a list. This will also cut down on impulse buys. Experts say put treats, snacks, and lunches on the list -- on paper, on purpose.
Don’t get fancy with name-brand items. Experts say you can always save money buying no-name brands without sacrificing quality. Canned goods and frozen veggies are perfect examples.
Other tips on saving include making your own coffee, eating out during lunch times instead of dinner, and take your own lunch to work.
