OKC Energy FC signed forward Tim Janssen for the 2016 season, the club’s front office announced today.
Janssen comes to Energy FC from Fortuna Sittard FC, where he started 4 of the 5 games he played in. The striker played for FC Eindhoven in 2006 when they won the EUFA European Under-21 Football Championship and qualified for the 2008 Olympics. Janssen also played for Danish professional team FC Midtjylland from 2011-2014, in which time the team compiled a record of 25-16.
“I’m happy to be here. I’m looking forward to being able to play and to perform with the team,” Tim Janssen said. “I hope I will do as expected, and I hope I can make a difference and help the team to achieve a higher level.”
Janssen grew up playing for one of the most prominent teams in Europe, and has played on several international teams since 2004. He has faced injury but is expected to play a key role with Energy FC.
“Tim is a player I played against myself, back in Denmark, and he did a fantastic job there,” Energy FC Head Coach Jimmy Nielsen said. “He was unlucky with injuries, but if we can get him back on track and he can stay healthy, he will be a very valuable player for the team. We’re excited to have him.”
The addition of Janssen brings the number of players signed by Energy FC to 21. He joins Jacob Lissek, Daniel Jackson, Evans Frimpong, Casey Townsend, Kyle Hyland, Michael Thomas, Gareth Evans, Michael Byskov, Jordan Rideout, Sebastian Dalgaard, Danni König, Cyprian Hedrick, Peter Toth, Daniel Gonzalez, Chuy Sanchez, Coady Andrews, Kalen Ryden, and goaltenders Cody Laurendi and Ray Clark and newcomer Luis Martinez as players officially signed for the 2016 season.
Energy FC will host FC Dallas in a preseason match at historic Taft Stadium in Oklahoma City on February 27. Season Seat Holders tickets are available by contacting the Energy office at 235-KICK or visiting energyfc.com.
