An Oklahoma City man is behind bars after authorities said he tried to meet and have sex with an undercover deputy posing as a 14-year-old girl.
According to the Canadian County Sheriff’s Office, deputies arrested 25-year-old Bobby Thomas. Members of the Sheriff’s Internet Crimes against Children Task Force arrested Thomas after he drove from Oklahoma City to the Links Apartments, located at S.W. 15th and Mustang Road in Canadian County, where he had coordinated to pick up the “girl,” and take her back to his home in Oklahoma City for sex.
Deputies were staged at the apartment complex. When Thomas arrived, they were forced to block him in with their Sheriff’s vehicles, because he attempted to flee the scene. Realizing he would not be able to escape, Thomas exited his vehicle and surrendered to deputies, stating, “I knew I was busted the minute I saw the lights.”
Investigators placed Thomas under arrest, and while securing him inside a marked unit for transport to the county jail, Thomas uttered out loud for the deputies to hear, “I’m now a pedophile.”
According to the Sheriff’s office, the investigation began about 24 hours before Thomas’s arrest when he contacted who he believed to be a 14-year-old girl living in the Yukon area on an internet social website, and initiated a sexually explicit conversation. Thomas aggressively pursued meeting up with the girl through text messages, with the dialogue culminating with him making plans for the two to meet at the Links apartments for sex.
Thomas admitted to investigators that he had every intention to meet the girl at the apartments, and then take her back to his home in Oklahoma City for sex as he had described to her in text messages between the two. He also admitted that he had inquired if she had a friend to bring along, according to the Sheriff’s office.
“Not only was Thomas willing to meet up with an under-aged child for sex, but he had actually asked if she had a girlfriend to bring along for the party,” said Randall Edwards, Canadian County Sheriff.
Thomas was transported to the Canadian County Jail and booked on one count of Soliciting Sex With a Minor, and his bond was established at $50,000. He remains in custody.
