The 2016 Big 12 Women’s Basketball Championship bracket is set and will feature a 'Bonus Bedlam' matchup on Saturday between fourth-seeded Oklahoma State and fifth-seed Oklahoma at 11:00 a.m. CT. The Cowgirls (21-8, 11-7) swept the regular season series winning 73-42 in Stillwater and 71-69 in Norman.
The Sooners (20-9, 11-7) have played well of late, crushing Iowa State at home and beating Texas Tech on the road to close out the regular season.
The Big 12 Women’s Tournament will be held at Chesapeake Energy Arena in Oklahoma City. The play-in round begins on Friday with eight-seed Iowa State taking on nine-seed Texas Tech at 6:00 p.m. to be followed by seventh-seed TCU facing last place Kansas. The winner of those two games will respectively face regular season champ Baylor and two-seed Texas on Saturday. The last quarterfinal matchup is three-seed West Virginia vs. sixth-seed Kansas State.
The semifinals will be played on Sunday with the winner of 'Bonus Bedlam' playing at 1:30 p.m. The championship game is set for Monday at 8:00 p.m.
Baylor is the overwhelming favorite, having won five-straight Big 12 tournaments. Oklahoma in 2009-10 was the last non-Baylor winner. Oklahoma State is the only team to beat the Lady Bears this season. The Cowgirls opened Big 12 play with a 52-45 win against Kim Mulkey’s squad on Dec. 30th.
