A Newalla man accused of exposing himself to a 14-year-old girl led to a five-hour standoff Monday evening, and ended with the suspect dead.

Police were called out to the scene in the 20500 block of SE 93rd around 6:30 p.m. Monday after the girl notified a neighbor, who called 911. According to police the man invited the girl inside his house and that’s when he exposed himself.

“You have to be careful when going into anybody’s residence that you don’t know,” said MSgt. Gary Knight with the Oklahoma City Police Department.

“You don’t know what type of history this person has. You don’t know what type of reason they have for suddenly just inviting you in rather than having you stand on the porch.”

When officers arrived on the scene the man was armed with a pistol and refused to come out of his house. OKCPD called in their tactical unit to try and take Sparks into custody. At some point they lost communication and shortly after 10:30 p.m. police say Sparks killed himself.

News 9 ran a check and couldn’t find Sparks on the Oklahoma Sex offender registry.
