A Grady County Sheriff’s deputy who is well-known to many News 9 viewers is in the fight of his life.
Corey Loftice, 35, has been diagnosed with stage 4 kidney failure, Sheriff Jim Weir said.
Without a transplant, it can be a fatal disease.
News 9 met Loftice last July, after convinced a young girl who’d accidentally shot herself in the chest with a nail gun, to board a Medi-Flight to an area hospital.
The girl was petrified to fly, but witnesses said Loftice put her at ease by his gentle manner, and the Army tattoos he showed her on his arms.

Loftice also received Grady County’s “Life Saving” Award at a law enforcement banquet this past December.
Weir said that was from life-saving CPR Loftice administered to a heart attack victim several months ago.
Weir said Loftice — who’s a 2000 graduate of Moore High School — collapsed after getting out of bed Sunday.
“And I believe he crawled to a vehicle, and had a friend drive him to Grady Memorial Hospital,” Weir said Tuesday afternoon. “He wasn’t feeling well for several days, and he was a trouper, he thought it was just a cold or the flu.”
Weir said his department is working on fundraisers for Loftice’s family. He has three young children.
Flores Mexican Restaurant in Chickasha plans to donate a percentage of their proceeds this Saturday to Loftice’s family.
Weir said folks can make donations directly to the Grady County Sheriff’s Department as well.
