Oklahoma City Police have issued an arrest warrant for a man accused of shooting a child on Tuesday night.
Police said Maurice Bowens is a multi-convicted felon who should not have had a gun.
News 9 has learned the 5-year-old boy wasn't the only child involved. The shooting happened at the Heritage Ridge Apartments. People who live there said they heard about nine shots.
“When I was lying in bed, I heard first, I heard two shots, then I heard four more, then I heard three,” said Luther Gardner.
An arrest warrant was issued for Bowens for four counts of Assault with a Deadly Weapon after former felony convictions, as well as one count of Possession of a Firearm.
Investigators said Bowens got into an argument with his ex-girlfriend and another man in the parking lot. They said Bowens shot into the man's car, but the man drove away.

Then, according to the warrant, Bowens started shooting into his ex-girlfriend's car, where her 5-year-old and 4-year-old sons were sitting. One of the bullets struck the 5-year-old in the ankle.
“There was a lot of yelling going on, a lot of commotion,” Gardner explained. “Then I finally came out of the apartment and of course before I came out, I heard somebody say, ‘You shot my baby,’” Gardner added.
The arrest warrant stated that after the shooting, Bowens jumped in the car with the woman and her kids and she drove to the hospital. Bowens took off before police got the hospital.
“It's horrifying, I mean you think about your children, I mean these are young kids that have a life ahead of them and to be shot,” Gardner told News 9. “It could have been fatal instead of the leg,” he added.
Prison records for Maurice Bowens show numerous convictions on drug, weapons and stolen property charges.
