Four people are dead after a two-car accident near Lake Thunderbird Monday night.
According to Norman police, at about 11:19 p.m., officers responded to a report of an injury collision on the bridge in the 15600 block of Highway 9. Preliminary investigation of the collision indicates a Ford Van was traveling eastbound on Highway 9 when it traveled left of center and collided head-on with a Jeep Grand Cherokee that was traveling westbound on the roadway.
The driver of the Ford Van and its two occupants were pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Jeep Grand Cherokee was also pronounced dead at the scene, according to police.
The names of those involved in the collision are being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
In addition to the Norman Police Department, the Norman Fire Department and EMSStat also responded to the scene. As a result of the collision, Highway 9 was closed at 156th Avenue SE while the scene was investigated. The collision remains under investigation by the Norman/OU Police Collision Investigation Reconstruction Team (CIRT.)
