Animal control officers in Oklahoma City came to the rescue after a dog was found caught in the middle of a family fight.

According to the police report, it was a concerned neighbor who notified police about the abuse.

Now, that sweet pup is going to be available for adoption.

The dog’s name is Babies and she is a sweet, young dog despite the abuse she endured.

Those at the shelter wonder why would anyone want to hurt a sweet face like this, but unfortunately, they see cases like this all the time.

“This was another one where we went out and our staff was pretty sad to find an animal in the condition like she was,” said Julie Bank with the Oklahoma City Animal Welfare Department.

Babies was found at the Monterra Apartment complex located near Council Road and NW 5 Street after police responded to a call about people actively beating a dog.

Police arrested 23-year-old Branden Jones at the complex. He now stands accused of animal cruelty and domestic related charges.

Witnesses claim Jones used a belt and his fists to beat the poor defenseless puppy after she had an accident on the living room floor.

Babies was rushed to the animal shelter and given a cruelty exam. The good news is she didn't have any broken bones, but she did have a lot of bruising along her backside.

“She is sweet and she is kind and she's certainly young,” Bank said. “So she needs to learn some manners and some skills, but that's what pet ownership is about. It’s not about yelling at a dog. It’s not about pushing a dogs nose down when they make an accident. It’s about teaching them and communicating appropriately with the dog so they know what you expect and then you praise them for doing the right thing.”

Bank said numerous studies show there is a direct link between animal abuse and other forms of domestic violence.

“So, really the bottom line with that is if you know someone that is abusing an animal. you should  report it,” Bank said.

Babies should be available for adoption by the end of the week at the Oklahoma City Animal Shelter.

They will be looking for a specific kind of family; one that is patient and kind. The playful pup takes to women very well, but is still very skittish around men. She does very well around other dogs though.

So if you are interested in adopting Babies, be sure to check out the animal shelter's Facebook and Twitter pages.
