A metro area mother filed a police report against her ex-husband Thursday, March 24. She said she did it after he sent her a video of their 7-year-old son riding on the roof of a SUV.

Jami Brewer said the video shows her son on the roof of the SUV as it was driving slowly down a two-lane paved road. Brewer said her son’s grandfather was the driver, and her ex-husband Danny shot the video from a vehicle following behind the SUV.

Brewer said it’s a clear example of child endangerment.

Oklahoma City Police told News 9 there’s nothing they can do, because there’s no proof the video was shot in Oklahoma City.

“It would have been against the law if my child had died,” Jami Brewer fumed Thursday afternoon.

Danny Brewer told News 9 he shot the video a few weeks ago at a state park in Oklahoma, although he wouldn’t say where. He also said other families also had children riding on top of vehicles on roadways in the state park.  As a matter of fact, he said a park ranger told him “it was okay” to do it.

Spokespeople for Oklahoma City, Moore and Edmond Police Departments told News 9 Thursday that if one of their officers witnesses something like what was on the video forwarded to them, the adults responsible would face consequences.

“It appears to be a very dangerous act,” said Oklahoma City Police Spokesman Gary Knight. “It’s certainly something that if I saw somebody doing that, and I was a patrolman, I would obviously pull them over and check the welfare of the kid, but also the driver.”
