Marty Maybin scored in the 30th minute of play and Miguel Gonzalez added another goal in the 54th minute to lift Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC to a 2-1 win over Energy FC Saturday night at Taft Stadium.

Following a mix-up between Energy FC defender Cyprian Hedrick and goalkeeper Cody Laurendi that vacated the OKC net, Marty Maybin picked up the ball and tapped in the first goal for the Switchbacks.

In the 54th minute of play, after a collective move, Gonzalez shot what would be the game’s deciding goal from about 20 yards out, past a diving Laurendi for a 2-0 Colorado Springs lead.

Energy FC narrowed the deficit to a single goal thanks to forward Danni König heading a Sebastian Dalgaard corner kick through traffic in the Switchbacks box and past Colorado Springs keeper Devala Gorrick in the 63rd minute.

OKC had a number of chances in the closing minutes, but was unable to push an equalizer past Gorrick. Gorrick was issued a yellow card in the 88th minute for delay of game and required an injury timeout in second half stoppage time.

The loss marks Colorado Springs’ first win over Energy FC in four meetings.

Energy FC’s next match is at 7 p.m. Saturday, April 9, at Taft Stadium, when the club faces Saint Louis FC.
