It is hard for both parents and students to believe a teacher, once voted teacher of the year, is now under investigation for crossing the line with her students.
“I was like, ‘Oh my God what is going on’,” said parent Lisa Williamson. “This is the teacher who helped my son graduate.”
Williamson is still in shock that the math teacher both her sons love and trust is now facing criminal charges for indecent exposure.
Victoria Dacalio, 51, was arrested Tuesday after police say she sent a sex video to a student, and that her face was clearly visible.
“If this is really going on at Douglass High School, I need to really get my son away from here,” said Williamson. “Because I don't want him to be one of the students getting a sext text going to his phone.”
Dacalio is currently on paid administrative leave.
Court documents state the text messages between Dacalio and the student suggest she meant to send the two-minute video to her husband. But the student claims Dacalio had sent him another lewd video text just three months before.
Now, police are also investigating rumors that Dacalio threw parties, both Douglass Mid High and Del City High attended, where she had buffet of marijuana and alcohol products - including pot laced brownies and candies she had brought over from Colorado.
“She was a good teacher, I really liked her,” said 18-year-old Kaleafia Peevy, who is a former student.
He said he can't believe Dacalio would ever throw a party like that.
“She was getting onto me about doing that stuff so I don't think that's true,” said Peevy.
For now, he and several other students are standing by their teacher as her case makes its way through the court system.
Dacalio is yet to be formally charged. She is currently out on a $4,000 bond.
