Chesapeake Energy has announced that it will donate its Chesapeake Community Plaza to the Oklahoma Center for Nonprofits.

The three buildings at 710 West Wilshire are home to 30 nonprofits.

Chesapeake purchased the property in 2008 and opened it up to non-profits at below market rents in 2010.

With low energy prices, many feared for the future of 65,000 square foot space.

“A lot of the tenants have wondered if someone would buy it and not make it for non-profits,” said Marnie Taylor with the Oklahoma Center for Nonprofits.

Taylor said below market rents, which have helped the nonprofits thrive, will not be going up.

The property is currently valued at nearly $3.9, according to the county accessor website. The Oklahoma Center for Nonprofits will take over operations in the summer.
